Spooktacular Classic: Shadow of a Man

Spooktacular Classics are dried-up chunks of word vomit which I like to regurgitate every time a Halloween Spooktacular event rolls onto the Interwebs scene.

You’ve been warned.

Shadow of a Man

shadow of a man2

I saw a shabby shackled shadow
Flitting through the gray-walled hall.
Not once did he make custom eye contact,
Preferring the vacant, bland wall.
Slouched, sullen, somber,
A hollowed haunted husk
Belittling the teacher within,
Resigned to Death’s dreary dusk.
A master mathematician,
A grammar-galore extraordinaire
Always so clear, controlled, concise,
Now rambling in incoherent fear.
Brought to his knees by circumstance
Which caused demise from within,
Ultimate betrayal from without,
A sinister act of immorality and sin.
Still ignoring the betrayal,
He holds her high on a pedestal above.
He’s been duped by his beating heart,
Destroyed by all-encompassing love.
His eyes flit to and fro,
For naught does he see reality,
Only a world comprised by her,
Offspring, and horrid memories.
Only one can pull him away from death,
But her bitter hand betrays, betrays.
And as the cold, jagged hilt slips deeper,
He still cannot see the truth of her ways.
The shadow man already knows
His coming journey will be daunting.

I saw the shadow of a great man today,
Whereupon I
experienced my first haunting.
